Idiomy to związki frazeologiczne, których dosłowne znaczenie jest zupełnie inne niż sens metaforyczny. Na egzaminie maturalnym na poziomie rozszerzonym (oraz w certyfikatach B2 First i C1 Advanced) użycie naturalnych, trafnych idiomów jest jednym z najszybszych sposobów na zdobycie maksymalnej liczby punktów w kryterium Zakres i poprawność środków językowych.
